This guide uses LinuxGSM to install and manage a Rust server.

1. Check the requirements

Open the LinuxGSM server list, choose Rust, and check that your VPS meets the requirements. The source guide requires at least 12 GB of RAM.

2. Create a user

Log in to the VPS as root, then create a user for the Rust server:

adduser rustserver

Set a strong password. Press Enter to skip optional details such as the phone number and email address.

3. Give the user sudo access

Add the user to the sudo group:

usermod -aG sudo rustserver

The alternative method is to edit /etc/sudoers:

sudo nano /etc/sudoers

Add this line below root ALL=(ALL:ALL) ALL:

rustserver ALL=(ALL:ALL) ALL

4. Switch users

su rustserver

5. Install LinuxGSM

Download the script and prepare the Rust installer:

curl -Lo linuxgsm.sh https://linuxgsm.sh/ && chmod +x linuxgsm.sh && bash linuxgsm.sh rustserver

Run the installer:

./rustserver install

LinuxGSM downloads the required dependencies. Enter Y when it asks for confirmation.

6. Manage the server

Run this command to see the available options:

./rustserver

Start the server with either command:

./rustserver st
./rustserver start

If you open the server console, do not press Ctrl+C because it stops the server. Press Ctrl+B, then D, to leave the console without stopping it.
